The Mission of YouthBuild USA and YouthBuild International is to unleash the intelligence and positive energy of low-income young people to rebuild their communities and their lives.
We seek to join with others to help build a movement toward a more just society in which respect, love, responsibility, and cooperation are the dominant unifying values, and sufficient opportunities are available for all people in all communities to fulfill their own potential and contribute to the well-being of others.
The RootStock Foundation and YouthBuild Compton have entered into mutual commitment for personal advancement of YouthBuild students in emerging urban trades that put at their center a focus on health and learning and, by extension, on community health and prosperity, ultimately benefitting the local community in the City of Compton.
The RootStock Foundation and YouthBuild agree to collaborate in the establishment of an Environmental Stewardship Learning Center with an apprenticeship program in Urban Farming that uses a framework of nutrition-focused, controlled environment, technologically driven greenhouse ecosystems and their related bio-labs, designed to transform food-deserts into greenbelts, that use environmentally appropriate, water-harvesting, water-conserving, and water- recirculating, solar powered and zero-carbon emitting nutritional hubs to usher a new era of productivity and prosperity for inner city communities. The explicit goal of the Work is to develop technical occupations and careers in near-future, urban and suburban farming trades that can assure an adequate source and supply of nutrition for the world’s near future.
